Sarawak
 |
Sarawak is a land of lush
pristine rainforest, national parks, and awe-inspiring limestone caves,
including the largest caves in the world, and the longest underground
cavity cave in the world. The forest in this state is so dense that
rivers
form the only networks transportation system.
|
Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia, occupying
a land mass of almost 125 thousand square kilometers or 38 percent of
the total area of Malaysia. It is famously known as the Land of
Hornbills, which is the national bird of the State. These pristine
forests are home not only to orang-utan, proboscis monkeys, pygmy
elephants but also a vast array of wildlife.
There are thousands of longhouses in Sarawak. Many of them are located deep
in the forest. Travelling
on a traditional long boat, quite often the only form of transport
available, upstream to visit these long houses is a whole new
experience on its own, not to mention the thrill of jungle trekking in
such environment, should you feel adventurous, or the
eye-opening experience of spending the night with the Iban people in
their tribal longhouse.
Sarawak is considered to be one of the hidden
paradises of Borneo for a unique adventure, nature, cultural and
wildlife vacation. Given its ecologically and environmentally rich
natural assets and advantages, Sarawak's tourism attractions are indeed
one of the few true natural eco-tour sites left in this world.

Sabah
Sabah is the second largest
state in Malaysia behind Sarawak. Home to one of the richest biodiversity
site in the world in Kinabalu National Park, the soaring peak of Mount
Kinabalu, at 4,100 metres, is the highest in Southeast Asia. While the
lower reaches of the mountain are a
botany fanatic's dream, it is the upper reaches
that capture the hearts and imaginations of climbers. Mount Kinabalu is
one of the
most accessible peak and no specialised mountain climbing skills are
required to ascend it. Thousands of tourists visit Kinabalu National
Park every year with the intention of reaching the summit (number of
visitors at park headquarters now hovers around 200,000 per year).
For
wildlife lovers, you should take heart to know that Sabah is one of few
places where you have good chance of seeing animals like orang utan,
proboscis monkeys, green turtles, elephants etc in the wild. Whether
you observe these wildlife from a boat or when you trek in the
rainforest, the whole experience is most certainly going to be
unforgettable. Twitchers will likely be interested to go to Danum
Valley conservation area where over 300 species of birds has been
recorded, including the rare Giant Pitta. For divers, Sabah has some of
the finest coral
reefs
and dive sites in the world in Sipadan, Mabul and Lankayan islands,
among others.
Given Sabah's rich natural assets, it is little
coincidence that Sabah is
fast gaining popularity as a world's preferred adventure, eco, nature,
wildlife, scuba diving destination.
