Cameron
Highlands
Cameron Highlands is the
largest and most genteel of the hill resorts in Malaysia, and it was
also one of the most popular hill stations of Southeast Asia in
Colonial Times. The temperate climate of the Cameron Highlands has made
it Malaysia's 'Green Bowl', supplying numerous fresh vegetables to all
major
cities in Malaysia as well as
neighbouring countries.
Cameron Highlands are located 1,829 metres above
sea level. First discovered in 1885 by a British surveyor William
Cameron, the fame of Cameron Highlands grew during the colonial era
when British Planters realised the potential of its fertile mountain
slopes for growing tea, then a prized commodity among the colonies.
Much of the character of the Cameron Highlands has
remained unchanged since colonial times, and in many ways it is at hill
stations like the Cameron Highlands that British residents most
determinedly recreated an idyllic English environment. Brinchang's
Tudor inns and rose gardens are the most visible reminders of English
colonials, but the ubiquity here of fine tea and strawberries helps.
While Brinchang, with its bustling market square, handicraft stores,
and Buddhist Temple, is the most popular of the area's towns, visits to
Ringlet and particularly to Tanah Rata are highly enjoyable.

Fraser's Hill
Fraser’s Hill,
named after a Scottish trader, nestles quietly at 1,524 meters above
sea level, is a quiet and cool resort that retains colonial charm. The
beauty of Fraser's Hill is based primarily on its cool mountain air,
its abundance of luxuriant vegetation, and its
peace and tranquility. All of which
have made it a favoured destination for birdwatchers.
With
the
advantage of cool climate, Fraser's Hill is certainly a haven for
flower lovers, especially amongst the ladies. The flower
nurseries house huge amounts of local blooming flowers, and plants.
There are also jungle trails, waterfalls, a very pleasant
9-hole golf course, and a riding stable. Fraser's Hill is
not just another hill resort found in Malaysia, as it has the
distinction of housing the oldest colonial bungalows in Malaysia.
