Wildlife Borneo

This itinerary is specifically designed for wildlife lovers. The journey begins at the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, where you will spend some time to acclimatise before moving on to Kuala Selangor for wildlife and fireflies viewing.

Next you will venture to Sandakan, where you will be provided with unequalled opportunities to watch primates and turtles. You will first spend a night at the Selingan Island to get a unique first hand experience of watching turtle laying eggs and releasing hatched turtles to the ocean. You will then be taken on a river cruise to Lower Kinabatangan area where wild orang-utans can be spotted sitting on tree trunks and families of proboscis monkey jumping from tree to tree. At Danum Valley, you will get the chance to do some jungle trekking in search of more wildlife.

The last leg is Kota Kinabalu, where you will get to wind down at a beach resort before flying back to the UK.


Below is a breakdown of the itinerary:

1) Kuala Lumpur / Kuala Selangor (3-4 nights)
Fly to Kuala Lumpur and transfer to hotel. Free at leisure for a day before being taken to Kuala Selangor for a night.
Options:
Half-day/day tour around Kuala Lumpur.


2) Sandakan / Lahad Datu (6-7 nights)
Fly to Sandakan. You will be taken on a boat trip to Selingan Island for a day on the beach and an evening watching Green turtles. Return to the mainland for Orang Utan feeding at Sepilok before proceeding to Kinabatangan River for a boat trip into the forest, where you will spend two nights in an eco-friendly lodge. Morning and evening wildlife safari on a small boat. Land transfer to Danum Valley via Lahad Datu, spending two nights in a jungle lodge. Jungle trek in search of more wildlife.
Options:
Spend two nights on Lankayan Island instead of one night on Selingan Island.


3) Kota Kinabalu (2-3 nights)
Fly to Kota Kinabalu to wind down before flying back to the UK via Kuala Lumpur.
Options:
Visit foothill of Mount Kinabalu, visit one of last remaining longhouses.
